Head to Toe Series: Interview Ready

As a woman, dressing professionally isn't always an easy task.  Because you have many more options for career attire than men you also have many more chances to stand out, both positively and negatively.  It's said that employers believe a prospective employee will dress her best for her job interview or a huge presentation.  Therefore, looking less than impeccable is unacceptable on these occasions. Follow these style guidelines to ensure you are dressed for success:

Head
Style your hair conservatively. Also do not dye your hair multiple colors or wacky colors.

Go for a natural make-up look. Leave the dark and neon colored eye shadows at home.

Body
Wear a suit. Make sure to get the right cut, color and versatility for your budget.  The most amazing thing about suits: They can be worn as separates.

Polish your fingernails (no chips please). If you opt to go for a more natural look, clean your fingernails to assure there is no dirt under them.

Use perfume sparingly. Your objective should be to get the job; it isn't to be the room air freshener.

Toes
Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes.  This is the conservative approach. If you opt to wear peep-toes, follow the same guidelines for your fingernails. Regardless of the type of shoe you wear it should be clean and free of scuff marks.

These tips are targeted towards a conservative look which most of you will need.  For those of you that will enter more artsy careers, there may be more freedom in style choices.  Now that you have the tools to make a knockout interview outfit, get out there an do it. The transformation from clueless to capable is within reach.
